2013/01/21

The Secretariats of the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) have the pleasure of inviting you to the launch of a study on “Promoting Access to Medical Technologies and Innovation: Intersections between Public Health, Intellectual Property and Trade” prepared by the Secretariats of the three organizations from 16:30 to 18:00 on 5 February 2013, at the WTO, CR building.

The Directors-General of WHO, WIPO and WTO will present the study. The event will be chaired by Madame Ruth Dreifuss, former Swiss Federal Councillor. It will be followed by a reception in the WTO Atrium.

The study aims at assisting policy makers by providing an overview of the interplay between public health, trade and intellectual property, information on legal and policy options, and empirical data. It illustrates the need to adopt a holistic approach, ranging from research and development to delivery and encompassing the health, trade and intellectual property dimensions. The study is another milestone in the close cooperation between WHO, WIPO and WTO.

For logistical and security clearance purposes, it is essential that participants register prior to 31 January 2013 by email to ipd@wto.org

Journalists with badges giving them access to the WTO will be allowed in without additional badges but they must still register via the email addressipd@wto.org by 31 January 2013.
